Finding Our Way Out

Congratulations to our whole program on a hard-fought 2-1 JV victory over Thomas Jefferson on our turf Friday where we definitely worked together to defend the mountain. Benny and Grayden both had spectacular goals, both assisted by Shane, while Miles made a couple of really key saves to ensure the victory. It was a whole team effort with the varsity players cheering loud and proud on the bench side, and lots of family members proudly wearing their Green Mountain Soccer scarves and offering encouragement on the bleachers side.

We will be off Monday, September 9th. We will train at our normal times Tuesday through Friday, as we have no games this coming week. We will train Saturday, September 14th from 2pm to 3:30pm.

The pop-culture definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. On the varsity level, we are stuck, and we must find the right changes to get these hard-working, dedicated and talented players over the hump. Expect to see changes to the lineup – not just who plays, but in which positions. Being a senior or a captain is no assurance of playing time. We have to find the combination of players, and in which roles, that will result in success on the field.

Likewise, your coaches have been working hard to implement clearly necessary tactical changes. This past week, we spent a lot of time working on valuing the ball and keeping possession. We reverted to previous tactics in the game Friday night, but we will continue to work hard to embrace the importance of possession in the coming weeks.

All three of your coaches remain firmly convinced that we have the pieces to turn our varsity fortunes around. We believe in our players. We just have to find a way to make the pieces fit together.
