Community Service

Coach Matt’s wife, Sheri, prepping rolling suitcases for our Colorado neighbors

This game and our community both give so much to Green Mountain Soccer, and it is important that we give back.

“Christmas in the Park” is our annual community service project where we share our blessings with our Denver metro homeless neighbors. Dozens of organizations come together (this is not a government sponsored event) at Civic Center Park in downtown Denver to provide warm clothes, food and other essentials to help our homeless population survive the winter.

Green Mountain Soccer partners with an organization named Stigma (Coach Matt and his wife, Sheri, work for Stigma) to distribute about a thousand rolling suitcases to the Christmas in the Park attendees. Our homeless neighbors use the rolling suitcases to protect all of their possessions as they move from shelter to shelter and try to find resources and recovery. Please watch this three minute video for details about the event.

Ways You can Participate

  • Collect Rolling Suitcases in Your Neighborhood: Knock on doors, text or email your friends, use a community app like “Nextdoor,” or ask around at work. You might be surprised how many people have rolling suitcases they aren’t using anymore collecting dust in their basements.
  • Ask for Help from Your Organizations: Make an announcement at church, ask for help from your other sports teams, tell your school club what we are doing. Organizations love to support other organizations doing good in the world. Don’t be shy…ask for two minutes on the agenda to solicit donations to Christmas in the Park.
  • Go Thrift Shopping: Some Goodwill and ARC locations are often full of rolling suitcases at a great price. You can participate financially by purchasing rolling suitcases for our mission.
  • Donate Money to Stigma: Stigma purchases hundreds of rolling suitcases. You can make a fully tax deductible donation by using this link to the Stigma website, or you can make a check out to “Stigma,” and put “Christmas in the Park” in the memo.
  • Help Distribute on Christmas Morning: If you and your family would like to attend the event on the morning of December 25th in downtown Denver, please contact Coach Matt.

When you have collected all of the rolling suitcases you can gather, please contact Coach Matt and he can arrange to pick them up through mid/late December. Stigma is an IRS designated 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and your contributions are fully tax deductible.
